Lake Powell ???
#1
Just curious how's the fishing at Wahweap or Dangling rope area? What are the most common type of fish I'd be catching from the shore, float tube, or 11 ft pump up pontoon boat? As well is there any vegetation in Wahweap or it's just a sandy beach with rocky cliffs.

Might be heading down there this spring or early summer. I know around the boat docks in Wahweap I can catch bass for sure from what I've caught 3 years ago down there but I'd like to see maybe some bg, crappie, or if I'm lucky a striped bass.

Thanks for any info [angelic].

First off, go to Wayne's words for current fishing conditons, best source. As to Wahweep, if you are willing to drive to the back of the bay, you will find brush, trees, etc. back there, only problem is what is the access ?? Right now, there is not a lot of anyting in the water over most of the lake due to the low lake level. again, check Wayne's words !!

If the air and water temps are warm, find some shade. The times I've been to LP it has not been hard to find bluegill, bass, or catfish. They are all over. Especially if there are houseboats handing out table scraps the catfish will hang out there.

While chumming is allowed on LP, it's only with anchovies or sardines while fishing for Striped Bass. I'm pretty sure all other chumming is illegal in Utah. Putting a piece of hotdog on a hook on 1 rod and then using a second rod is about as close to chumming/ feeding fish you can do legally otherwise. The hotdog while probable outfish whatever else you're using anyways.

Prom page 30 of the 2014 Utah Fishing Guidebook, regarding Lake Powell;

Quote:• Chumming is allowed, but you may
chum only with legal baits, as specified
in Utah Admin. Rule R657-13-12.

And Rule R657-13-12 (at least the pertinent parts)
Quote:(d) Dead shad, from Lake Powell, may be used as bait only in Lake Powell. Dead shad must not be removed from the Glen Canyon National Recreation Area.

(e) Dead fresh or frozen salt water species including sardines and anchovies may be used as bait in any water where bait is permitted.

(f) Dead mountain sucker, white sucker, Utah sucker, redside shiner, speckled dace, mottled sculpin, fat head minnow, Utah chub, and common carp may be used as bait in any water where bait is permitted.

(6) Commercially prepared and chemically treated baitfish or their parts may be used as bait in any water where bait is permitted.

Looks to me like you could chum with shad, any salt water species, mountain sucker, white sucker, Utah sucker, redside shiner, speckled dace, mottled sculpin, fat head minnows, Utah chub, or common carp. Or any prepared and chemically treated baitfish.
