I just got back from there Tuesday. Was Playa Del Carmen area(45 min south of Cancun). We fished one day and had one bill fish hooked, Marlin or Sailfish not sure. I would look online for a guide to go with. You can get trips there through all the stupid tour people, but they might jack the price. We got four hours on a nice 23' boat with free cerveza for $300. The good thing there is you don't go out very far for big fish. You could damn near swim to shore. I looked at the sonar and we were 780' deep crazy.

Not sure what kind of fishing you want to do, but you can take the ferry across to Cozumel and beach fish, or grab a guide to take you back into the flats and mangroves for some Bonefish and Snapper.

Not as interested in Bill fish as I am in Tuna, Bonita, Dorado or fishing the rigg's. Dont know if there is any roosters? I do know that the time of the year might make it kinda limited. Any thoughts?

when we were down there we found it much cheaper to walk your butt over to the docks and talk to the fishermen themselves. dont go through a booking agency. or the person at the hotel

We went in october. So all the sails and marlin were gone. We caught some snapper and yellowtail baracuda. A few others. No yuna or any trophies. [reply][/reply]

Spent 8 days in Cancun at the ElCid Resort on my honeymoon in May 2010. We swam, we snorkeled over the reef, we swam with Dolphins, we did a day at the ruins, and my new bride bought me a half day trip out on one of the charter boats from the El Cid marina. That item was the only disappointment of our whole trip. High cost, too many people on the boat, never got out past the reef we had snorkeled on a few days before, and only 1 Spanish Mackerel boated.
Since then I've learned if you want to go to Mexico to do off shore fishing, go to the areas on the Pacific coast. Sea of Cortez (off the Yucatan coast where Cancun is) is just about fished or polluted out.
