Does anyone on here have one of the minn kota spot lock motors that will keep you with in 5 feet of that gps chordinate. the one I am looking as does not require you to have the motor connected to the sonor unit.
How do you like it?

I love mine. It feels like your cheating when jigging for lake trout.

It works well unless a super wind comes up and then its a pain in the ass but overall damn near the best thing to happen for jigging and/or holding a spot on the water. Whats also nice is the ability to set a path and it continues on that path and/or heading without intervention (again without wind) and the ability to set a speed at which you want to troll/move. Bottom line, BUY ONE, you won't regret it!

I don't have one, but I fished with a guy at Powell who had one on his boat. We were at the dam buoys and most of the boats were struggling to hold position in the breeze. We stayed about 50' off the wall and all we had to worry about was catching fish. If I ever upgrade my little aluminum boat to a bass boat, you can bet I'll invest in one of these.

I got mine installed last year and I have really enjoyed it. Nice to not always (if the wind is blowing too hard a real anchor is still necessary) have to use an anchor, enjoy not getting fishing lines hooked around the anchor rope and not have to pull up an anchor from the bottom to move to a new location. I even used it while sturgeon fishing, in a current, last year and it worked great.

Thanks guys. I really want to put one on our boat. However our boat is an older boat with the seats in the bow, and the rail on the top. Not sure how to attach a bow mounted motor to it. I have attached a photo that show the style of the bow however my dad is sitting right at the front. I think you can get the idea of what it looks like though. Any of you by chance have yours mounted to a similar boat. Thanks again.

The feature you are talking about is called Spot Lock, it is built in to the MinnKota I-Pilot series of electric positioning motors.
On a PowerDrive, you use a remote to program it and you have to disable your foot pedal.
On a Terrova, you use a remote but still have use of your foot pedal when needed.
Spot Lock and gps controlled cruise control of a positioning motor is priceless. It WILL change your outlook on life!

You would need. To remove some of the railing and build a base for it to be bolted to.

I have a minnkota 36V with spot lock on my 22' center console. Some days I feel like sitting on the bow and casting or bottom bouncing and other days I slow troll with the remote as I move around the boat.
It's an incredible piece of software and hardware. You wont regret putting one on your boat regardless if you have to remove some of your rail or not.
Some serious expense is involved depending which model you choose, extra batteries, on board chargers, etc. but if you are a serious angler what's another $3,000?
Good luck

I would get a Humminbird with a lake master card Terrova with i-Pilot Link Controller.
Follow the Contour is great when trolling. the lake master card is new to the west so is not that good yet.
I would go without food to save $3000. to buy both.

I have a Terrova with I-Pilot, and I love the Virtual anchor ( spot lock ) it has many applications. Push a button and you can do whatever you need to do without worrying about drifting off of your area or drifting into shore etc...
Once you get used to the electric steering vs cable steering you are good to go.

In the last month I switched from the Minn Kota Terrova to the Motorguide. Pretty similar, but I found the Motorguide to be a bit stronger built, but the Terrova was more accurate. Both virtual anchors worked flawlessly. Mine is on my Lund Tyee and is a 24v 80 thrust 60" shaft. Be warned, the Terrova must have the shaft ring REALLY tight against the transmission during transport or the seals and bearings will leak and the head unit will be filled with water as you raise it from the vertical position...yes, I found out the hard way.
