Places for a 'tooner?
#1
With these gas prices, I can't afford to haul around my boat everywhere I go, so I am beginning to utilize my pontoon! I've been a few places, but I am looking for some areas where I can get 2-3 hours of fishing in with some action! So any suggestions are needed and appreciated!

Thanks,
Remmy

Where ya coming from and what do ya like to catch? I usually take my toon wherever I'm fishing alone and take the boat when I have company. Most places I fish I can get to good fishing within a half mile of my launch point at the farthest. Some places get rough from other boats by 9:30 or 10:00 but there are spots that don't have power squadron. Let me know a little more and maybe we can focus in your search. Later J

I live in Davic Co. And use my tube, kayak, and pontoon on all kinds of lakes. Mantua, UL, Willard, Pineview, Strawberry, Uinta Lakes, Deer Creek, EastCanyon, Jordanelle, Lost Creek, Echo, Rockport, have all seen my little crafts.

The State Park Service ARE kinda pulling a bad move closing lots of park-n-walk in points. Drives me crazy, because tubes and stuff are nicely portable, but don't cover big water fast. Basically stopped me fishing Pineview for spring crappies. I wish they'd just insist on you paying and then let you park where you can. Basically NO access to Jordanelle without a boat. But you can fenagle it, and toons and stuff can give you good action just out from the crowds.

Springbuck has given ya some great intell for your close stuff. I'm a little farther north so I'll add a couple if you're looking for new waters. I use mine on Porcupine, Hyrum and Cutler depending on how far you want to venture you can cross the state line to Idaho and find several lakes that are float tube only ponds and others than are very fun to float and the rec boats aren't too thick. By the way the fishing can be really good on some of these ponds, check the Idaho forum.

If a river venture is more your style you can do the Green below Flamming Gorge, Bear River around Cutler and below Oneita dam just check and make sure your craft is up to those river conditions. I got dunked on my small toon on the Oneita run last summer. Sort of a scary situation but I was running it as a get wet and have fun trip instead of fishing and you take different risks.

You can definitely have a lot of fun on these small craft, but you have to be smarter and more cautious because weather is a much greater factor and so be careful. Know your limits, watch hypothermia and work into it slowly so you don't get in trouble. Later J

The trailhead and beach access just south of Port Marina at Pineview was where I used to launch a 'toon. It's free parking and it is inside the "No Wake" buoy line. Here's a secret: Launch early in the morning and the down-canyon breeze will take you right down the Narrows. You'll have an hour of calm and then at about 11 am the wind will change to UP canyon, wafting you effortlessly back to the launch point. Happens almost every day that way.
