Causey is Hot!!
#1
I Drove up to Causey on Sat. I drilled my first hole about 7:10 and started catching small splake. by 8:30 I had one koke and 34 splake. I got tired of catching the small (7' to 9") splake and started moving around for the Kokanee. I caught small splake everywhere but they seemed to be more of them in the shallower water 24 to 40 feet. By noon I had 66 splake and 2 kokes. I started moving back toward the dam to go home. At about 1:30 I was back where I started about 100 feet out from the south west corner of the dam, still only 2 kokes and 91 splake. Then the Kokes moved in and I couldn't move until they quit biting. I left at 2:30 with 101 splake and 8 kokes. My best day on the ice previous to this (not counting perch) was 71 small rainbow and 1 22" brown at big sand wash last dec.

I caught them all on pink and white Ratfinkees tipped with wax worms until I ran out of wax worms and then tipped with 1/4" pieces of worm and then when I got lazy, with just the ratfinkee. They did bite better and hold on longer with bait on the hook. I caught most of the fish at the 24 to 28 foot level but I caught some as deep as 60 feet and as shallow as 1 foot.

The largest splake was about 14", I kept 4 Kokes for the smoker.

Sounds like a great day on the water. We had a nice time up there friday as well. Glad you could make it up and get into the fish! Good luck next time.

Wow, now that's a great report and I thought Petty4life was the only one that could put up those kind of numbers at Causey. Were you fishing by yourself? Did you catch any kokes with any size? WH2

Sounds like you had a good day fishing! Congrats on all the fish you caught. Thanks for the report. Is there a book out that tells where all the lakes, resevoirs and rivers are and what you can catch in them?

I read this book a while back and it has a lot of good info . May not be current but it was a good reading for me . I think I found it in the library , but you can buy one from Amazon .com . I have bought several Ice fishing books from there and got them used at a good price .

I think we talked to you up at Causey, we were the 3 guys that were close to you when you caught your 2nd koke. I almost asked you if you frequented this site. Glad to hear you got into the Kokes a bit more.

I hit Causey Sunday. From about 8am till 11:30am. And the fishing was great. If the fish weren't biting, jig for a bit, stop, and they bite. In those few hours, me and a buddy landed 9 splake. All of them being really tiny, not bigger then 10". I was fishing in the south arm. Moved around a bit, and the results were all the same.

Hey guys. I want to take the girlfriend somewhere that she can catch some fish and enjoy ice fishing for the first time. It sounds like Causey might be the place. I looked in the directions thread and I didn't see directions to Causey. Would anyone mind posting some?

Also, I want to go ice fishing the day after Christmas somewhere. If anyone has any ideas, send me a PM. thanks

You may want to go soon. I'm guessing the fishing up there won't stay this hot all winter. Usually when I go up there, I don't catch much.
