I usually get out 3 times a year for cat-fishing and now I know why I don't get out more often for them. Went to Benson Marina today for 2 hrs and nothing. Headed to the Benson church house and nothing there either. Is there a cat fish farm pond around the Cache Valley area that I can try my luck for cat fish?

The cats are in the shallows now and they like minnows and carp or sucker chunks for me. It hasn't been fast but when you catch them they are 20+" I don't know of a local catfish farm, but up west of Smithfield there is the trout farm at Mt Valley I think its called. Good luck. J

Thanks, I guess it would help if I had the right kind of bait. I was using hot dogs and beef livers since I couldn't find any chicken livers available. I have never tried carp meat is there a secret way to catching carp?

Get a bowfisherman to stick one for you and trade him a beer! I would recomend beef liver over chicken liver any day.

Carp like worms best for me under a bobber. There will be the big carp fest at the Benson marina this weekend so lots of bow fishers with extra carp I reckon. If you aren't catching cats where you're fishing try moving to a new location. Sometimes even 10' can make a difference. The cats seem to be feeding now so if they don't bite, try something different. I don't have much success this time of year in the river channel, except for small ones, but in the shallows the fish are scattered and I pick one up every here and there. I typically don't find a hot spot in the shallows that I can sit at all day or night and keep catching them. But I also don't have time to try that either so I move on and usually find other fish. Good luck you'll get them. Later J
