Pelican Lake
#1
I'm thinking about hitting it this weekend. I haven't been in a couple years. Is the water still dingy or has it cleared up at all. Is the water level low? How's the bass fishin been?

Thanks in advance for any info.

I haven't been to Pelican for a little while but friends who have been recently say it's been decent for bass. You should catch plenty. Lots of carp in there making the water murky.

That is to bad about the carp in there. They will eventually ruin the fishery. There will always be bass, but it seems like the population has steadily declined in the past 4 years or so. I remember the first time I went to Pelican. Nice clear water and bass everywhere. Sight fishing was a blast. Now you can't even see the bottom on most parts of the lake.

I was there earlier this year, and had by far the best bass fishing I have had in 8 years. The blue gill are small and far less, which is Sad to me as Pelican was once concidered a "blue ribbon" bluegill fishery.

we caught around 50 bass from morning to noon, and this was with several hours of targeting the bluegill first. I would say a vast majority were in the 1.5 to 2.5 pound range, but some in the 3-6 are available.

We did see several larger bass in the open waters, but I was not able to get one to take this year.

water is about the same lelel of "murky" as last year, which is to say you can't see bottom in more than 2 feet of water [frown]
