My brother, his roommate, some of their friends, and I camped at McHenry this weekend. They didn't fish at all but I did some of the time in my float tube. Caught my first bows and perch at Jordanelle. Day 1 on friday I didn't catch anything untill I traveled really far in my float tube by foot. When I got to a certain spot I caught a 13 inch rainbow basically by drift fishing using worms. Same spot within minutes I caught a beautiful 18.5 inch rainbow the same way. The fish itself seemed unhealthy and didn't make it so I took it back to camp after not being able to revive it. After catching that fish it was about 8:40 P.M so I unfortunately couldn't stay at the spot anymore because I had a 40 or so minute paddle ahead of me.
Despite not sleeping well or long like usual when camping, the next day I woke up butt freaking early but wasn't rewarded. Like before, I had my pole in the water while paddling to the spot I caught the rainbows last night. On my way to the spot I caught a bunch of 8ish inch perch(and didn't bother taking pictures of more than 1). When I got to the spot surprisingly their were 2 bank fisherman there and I asked them if they caught any and they said no and asked me if I had any luck. So in the exact spot where I caught the bows the previous(which was to far for those 2 guys to cast to), I didn't even have a bite for the several hours I stayed! The guys at the bank didn't catch anything as well. I tried everything from worms to powerbait to some lures and jigs and I didn't even get a bite. I don't have a fish finder but I'm guessing there weren't any fish at that spot cause I have a tough time believing I couldn't get even 1 using the many things I tried.
So that's where the fishing part of the trip ended for me. A combination of lack of confidence, fatigue(poor/lack of sleep AND being physically tired from paddling so far and walking so much), the heat, and a severe sunburn that I got on and around thhe back of my knees kept me from fishing anymore. The rest of the trip just consisted of hanging out with everyone and of course watching the fire works over the water which is why we originally came! Took lots of cool pictures of them.
For the next trip up there or anywhere from that matter, I would like to be using a larger float tube and have a motor! But other than sleeping bad and getting really sunburned on my legs, it was a fun trip. Sorry I couldn't remember how to post the pictures so you just plain see them instead of having links. Hope you guys enjoy the read.
