Friendly Land Owner on the Weber

I was driving on the frontage road up by coalville today looking for some access. I know you are supposed to be able to fish where there are ladders but it seems thats not always the case these days. Anyways I asked a farmer if I could fish off his land and he said sure, you bet! He proceeded to voice his displeasure with some of his neigbors who dont allow fishing access, most of whom dont fish. He said there are only so many places to fish any more and we all need to share the resource. I was stoked to have met him. Good guy. I didnt do to well today on the dry fly though. Oh well, I left happy anyways.

Always nice to find a friendly landowner. If we take care of landowners property then they usually are nice to let you in or visa versa.

Sounds like this guy was a true credit to humanity and sportsmen. He deserves recognition and a big thank you for his fine stewardship of a resource.

95% of my interactions with land owners have been positive. It's the small minority on both sides that ruin it for everyone.

So we can go up and help him mend his fences, paint his barn, stack his hay and what ever else he needs done.

Then he can tell his neighbors about us.

Another good thing is Utah has the Walk-In-Access Program were Private land owners work with the DWR and allow folks to fish from there land. The Private land owner gets a some cash from the DWR for doing so.

To be honest I find this fair comprise to Private land Rights bill I even dare to say to pay a little more for a license if more landowners would join the Walk in access program.

I have had the same experience when fishing the Weber on the Coalville access road. A couple of landowners have been working their land as I acceded it. They were very friendly and happy that we had access through their land. They both mentioned that with the access ladders, their fences were no longer torn down and litter was not an issue anymore.

I also talked to the son of one of the land owners at the walk in access lower on the river. He stated that the family was happy to open access to anglers. They also didn't understand why other land owners didn't do it.
