work week at the south platte
#1
So this last week I was sent out to Colorado Springs to do roofing, It was a down pour all week, luckily I brought my gear along for the trip and even if you can't roof in the rain you definitely can fish! A buddy and I went to fish the South Platte at Deckers. I had heard a lot about the river and was very excited. I was not disappointed either, we hooked into some very healthy rainbows and browns, the smallest being 15 inches. Here are a couple pics of the great day, we even had a little sunshine towards the end of the day.[Wink]

Yeah, the first half of the day we were using different combinations of a dry dropper, small emergers were working the best, it was slow though. The fastest action came later in the day as we switched to hoppers. we kept them as close to the bank as possible and slowly worked upstream to our truck. It was beautiful as the sun came out and the fish finally came to the top for some action. They still weren't rising anywhere else except for the hoppers we were throwing.

I don't have much experience playing a large fish on a fly rod in fast water so I lost several including a brown that looked absolutely gorgeous. Even with the lost battles it was a blast! And hopefully I will be better for next time[Wink]
