Echo Lake is Golden!
#1
So, to preface this. I'm not sure what exactly I was expecting as my first trip to Echo lake happened to coincide with the opening weekend for the Bow hunt. But my secluded retreat into the mountains for some "alone time" happened to be with several hundred of my 'best deer hunting friends'

I also am not sure what I was expecting the roads to be like... But the car I took was not sufficient. (Saturn Vue) I think my favorite part of the car ride was getting 'the look' from all of the people on their ATV's driving by, or when people would Mouth "They're Crazy" as we bounced on by.
In case you didn't catch that, The roads are rough, I would recommend only taking a car with really good clearance on the road, Though, if you're determined, and don't mind bottoming out your car a couple of times you could potentially make it there with anything that has more clearance than a sedan.

We managed to push the car a lot farther than we should have, and only had to walk about 20 minutes to get to Echo Lake. A decent hike that turned out to be well worth the adventure.

We fished from ~1-4. I took my two younger brothers with me. We each managed to land a Golden Trout, and I got my first (of what I'm hoping to be many) Uintah Brookie
I only managed to take a picture of one, as I rolled up my jeans to wade out into the lake to sit on a half submerged log. I left the camera (phone) on the bank to avoid my phone learning how to swim on its own.

There was one other father-son group on the lake, and a couple others that rolled up and fished for a few minutes and rolled out. The Father son group were using toons and fly rods, and were killing them on purple parachute fly patterns.
We used Powerbait and Mosquito, Parachute, and Elk Hair Caddis fly patterns and managed to land one on each of them.

As a side note, Thank you to the gentleman who brought over a few of those Parachutes for us to use. You certainly had better success than we did, and I appreciate you wanting to share that with us.

The totals for the day were 4 Golden and 1 Brookie, With the largest fish being just over 9 inches. (the golden in the pic below) nothing huge, and the fishing wasn't fast and furious, but I already can't wait to get back up in the Uintahs and find another lake to try.

Nice report. Glad you struck gold.

Just a humble reminder to anyone heading up to "golden pond" to keep a limit of brookies out of there if possible. This will hopefully allow the skinny goldens to put on some weight and thrive. Right now both the goldens and the remaining brookies are quite thin.

I have the same car. Something told me that road was way too ruff for it to make it all the way. Great job on the 1st's, may there be many more in your future!

Thanks for the report! I was thinking about either hitting up echo or mirror during my next trip.

Nicely done! I was up there with my family over the weekend. Caught me a couple little goldies on a red ant. Next time take a little hike to Joan Lake just up the hill from Echo. I hooked in to about 6 brookies using a royal wulff (would have been closer to 16 if I had set my hook on all the strikes I got).
