OK, Deer Creek humility

Here's the deal, I've gone out 6 times for smallies I've caught some every time, but not anywhere close to the numbers I read in many of the reports here. For me my best trip has been 3 in 5 hours. I have tried soft plastics cranks and top water lures. I've been using YouTube to teach me techniques but that just doesn't cut it I guess.

So I have a boat (14' john boat with 7hp motor), and would love to take somebody out who knows a bit more and can show me what I'm doing wrong. Any takers? I'm duck hunting Saturday, but I typically can do mornings Wednesday-Saturday
Thanks

The cooler weather will change it. My last trip about two weeks ago was the last time I'll bother with top water. I didn't find many active.

I was going to try spinner baits and senkos next trip for the bass portion.

I usually make a quick morning trip during the week on my tube. If I go next week I'll shoot you a PM.

If you want to catch tons of bass black, red woolly buggers, and green crawdad fly patterns are always a great option. When i use to go fishing them with regular gear I'd use rapala shad rap, cast master, blue fox, 1/16 oz jig with 1" tube, and small rapala rainbow lures. There's always a lot of bass around the island and the south side of that marina there.

When ever I fly fished dc I'd easily catch over 20-50 bass in 5 hrs.

Drycreekoutfitters drop shot craws either on a drop shot or Carolina rig.

What time are you fishing? The fastest action has been first light to sun up. We used mini spinner baits 1/8 ounce in chartreuse. Cast right up to the rocks and begin an immediate retrieve with varied jerks and twitches. That should get you non-stop action til just before full sunrise.

So problem number one may be the time -- although 7am is getting darker these days.

My summer trips I'm usually on the lake at 6 (and in late June even before) and done by 9.
