I'm a new member to BFT, however I have read through posts off and on for the last year. I love ice fishing, so when I read that people had been on Scofield I had to go.
I wanted to just share my experience on my first ice fishing trip of the season.
I went with my father in law and we stopped at 3-4 places on the way there trying to find meal worms. We couldn't find any place that had them, so I ended up getting night crawlers instead.
We got to the lack and around 8:00 on Saturday and the first 30 mins it was dead. About 8:30 it completely changed. For me the first two hours was non stop fishing, There was several times I had doubles on. Fishing was non-stop for the first few hours. Later in the day it would be spotty were I would catch 4-5 fish in 10 mins then a 20 min delay of nothing.
Most of the fish were 12-14 inch cutthroat however we caught some rainbows and a few chubs.
Around 11:00, I had a nice surprise. My pole started bouncing and as I set the hook, I could feel a heavy drag on the end of my line. Fortunately I was only down about 10 feet, so reeling up didn't take to long. I was pretty happy what I pulled through the hole.
I didnt have a scale, but I think he is at least a 4lb if not bigger. For me hes was a toad especially at Scofield. Immediately after that one I ended catching another one probably closer to 2 lbs.
All in all it was a great day, minus the wind. I have included a few pictures.
I will be writing a complete post on my fishing website soon, if you want to get the complete details.
