Heading to the Gorge
#1
With the great weather I thought I would head to the gorge and use my boat to mark way points for lake trout ice fishing. I'm going to focus on Linwood Bay...Never fished right there, but I think I will use downriggers and tube jigs and see if I can tempt them to bite. Any general suggestions from you experts...flashers? dodgers? bouncers? White jigs? Well, thanks in advance for any suggestions...I will report back Sunday.

With the great weather, there ain't gonna be much ice there this year, if any at all. Most years there isn't much anyway. Pipeline and points north is where most of it forms and where most of the fish go. Not all, most. Still a few fish in there now though that can be caught in the mouth. Pick your poison. 101 ways to catch a mack.

I imagine the Utah side will stay ice free all winter.

I hope to get up there next week. I am assuming all ramps are dry. Plan on trolling the utah side for trout and lakers.

What is the word on the Burbot fishing his year, I have not heard much about it? I am assuming it has been slow. With the warm weather, tempted to drag the boat to Firehole and give it a shot.

This is when the burbot fishing has been at its peak in years past, but I haven't heard, and don't target them. Macks kicked our butts today refusing most everything. We really, really need a blizzard or two and some cold weather. Lots of boats out, no good reports from the 3 regulars I talked to.

When I started this thread I said I would report back Sunday. Friday and Saturday were rough as Jim indicated. The water was smooth, the skies were clear, and warm for this time of year...but fishing was the worst I've seen ever. Linwood was pretty lean on fish so we went north of the pipeline bridge...more fish, but very little biting. Then my Lowrance broke and I was fishing blind. The good news...it was prime rib night at the Browning Café.

Camped two days on utah side. Caught some nice rainbows where streams come in. Caught two lakers casting from camp at dark. Water was 45 degrees. Weather was great.
