My party of three went to Roberts today. The pond is about 25% ice covered with 1/4 to 1 inch of ice. Broke some holes through the ice at the accessible dock in 3.5 hours of fishing we iced 345 perch and 5 trout. All perch are in the 4 inch range. I was there last night as well and it was cool to listen to the new ice form. I have done my part to help thin the place out. Once it is capped set up your shelter, use light gear with a chartruce jig, piece of mealie or perch eye and have fun sight fishing. Little kids will love this place, please know a shelter will help them see the fish in the big aquarium.
Merry Christmas!

Were the trout Rainbows or some of the Tiger trout that were stocked earlier in the year?

I love Roberts when it is crystal clear and you can see everything on the bottom. Great report and here's hoping it freezes soon.

That is a great kid and wow a permanent (seasonal) ice shack on Roberts that is one for the record books. I get thrilled when I see kids his age get that addicted to fishing they are the next generation of great outdoorsmen. My son has made me proud in countless ways, but just the fact that he loves fishing and will stay out on the ice for 8 hours plus just makes my parenting a valid event.
Sounds like in just a few days that it is going to be solid.

I fished the gravel pond this morning. The ice is still not safe. Some spots are 3 inches and others are 1 inch. I would still give it a few more days........ or more. I did just as ovid and punched holes off the dock. That place is ridiculous. It never took longer than 30 seconds to hook a fish. Ended up keeping 100 or so. My fingers hurt from filleting the little turds. I don't think there is anything anybody can do to help those fish put on some weight. If we thin them out they would just be over fished. Still great for my kids. Off again to mackay in the morning.

I stopped by around 4 today and fished until it was dark. Some people had gone out on the ice and drilled a few holes but I was happy to kick a hole in the ice at the end of the dock. You can still tell where it has been frozen for a while and where it is the newer thin ice.
Caught a dozen or so, never hooked a trout but I think I saw some. I just wish I hadn't forgotten my fish light. I don't think it would attract them, but it would be really fun to watch with it. I did hook my black-light case up to charge my glow jig, so it was pretty easy to see them dragging it back and forth after the sun went down.

New to the site. I took my kids (5 and 9) to Roberts today. It was pretty cold with the north wind so we spent most of the five hours in the ice hut. This was our first time ever fishing this water and overall it was a fun little trip. Ice was about 3.5" everywhere I drilled. We were in the southwest quadrant of the pond and I drilled all the way out to about the middle. Ended our first Roberts trip with about 40 perch and 4 trout. No tigers (which is what we were after) and no keepers.
