Welcome FlyPrincess,
Needed things to Ice Fish, [ol] [li]Ice Auger - 6" - cost about $30 [li]A kid's sled for hauling your stuff - lunch, bait, lawn chair, heater $10 [li]Bucket with lid - for holding your tackle, knife, bag for fish, powerbait, worms, etc. - use a old laundry soap bucket - Free [li]Tackle - a few ice flies & ice jigs, castmaster, swedish pimple, bobber. [li]Small ice rod & reel - 4 to 6 lb. test line - $5 on up.... [li]Heater - Coleman make a few different ones - $30 & UP... [li]Good quality warm clothes - you know coveralls, stocking hat, gloves.. [li]Other optional equipment - portable fish finder, ice shack, snowmobile, hand warmers, underwater camera, snow shoes [li]Bait - wax worms, meal worms, salmon eggs, night crawlers...[li]Scoop to remove slush from your ice fishing hole.[/li][/ol] These are just a few of the basics and I know others will throw in a few things I forgot or they might consider needed equipment. Hit any of the local lakes - Jordenelle, Strawberry, Deer Creek, Scofield, Hyrum, Electric Lake, Stravation. These are or within this weekend be ready for ice fishing. SAFETY is the top concern so try and go where some other folks are till you get some experience. Then you can forge your own trails. Good luck and I'm sure either any of the fisher people will be glad to answer any questions you might have.... Also search past postings for specific locations and conditions that your are considering. Catch a BIG one and have a great time - Winter is a great season for the outdoors and happy to see your are going to take advantage on it... [signature]

Good list from Lundman. It's really not too expensive to get into. You don't have to spend a lot, but is sure is fun to have some of the nicer toys!!

I have only been out once ever and I liked it alot. Polokid gave me an ice scoop and pole for christmas a couple years ago and I used a small reel I use for spin fishing. I also visited hooked fishing tackle and bought some goodies there. There are a bunch of us heading out Saturday you should join in and hang out with us.

[#000080]Hey Princess, alot the things you need, you probably already have. First: Clothing-proper layering and footwear are very important; Second: if you have some spinning or spincast or even a smaller baitcasting reels, any of these will do very well; Third: a hole cutter or auger as we call them, are neccessary only if you go fishing with someone that does not have one; Fourth: Lures and/or baits-these very. You can use flies, live bait(nightcrawlers, wax worms, meal worms...), frozenbait(minnows), and lures(plastics/metal); and Fifth: a good folding/camping chair.[/#000080]
[#000080] Other things are tents, heaters, ice spikes, 4-wheelers, snowmobiles, sonars, underwater cameras, above water digital cameras, etc... [/#000080] [signature]

Welcome to the site. Everyone else gave you alist of stuff. They are alot more knowledgeable about that.Me I just get a short pole ,some bait, jigheads and go for it. I have learned over the years that a tent is nice with a heater for those days when the wind is really bad. Looking forward to some posts. Ice fishing is my favorite because you can go anywhere you want on the lake if you don't mind walking.

One additional note: if your feet get cold or wet you are finished. It is often wet on the ice, so waterproof insulated boots are often a necessity.
