Does anyone know of a place close to Provo that offers decent catfishing or carp fishing this time of year? I've been told utah lake but a lot of the water close to the bank was frozen where I drove by today. Any small ponds in the city would even be great. Thanks!

UL is really far and away the best option generally. This time of year is tricky, although usually you can catch them through the ice.
Maybe in the lower Provo River relatively close by where it empties into the lake? I know during warmer months you can sometimes find them there, but I don't know enough about their winter behavior to give you much info on the likelihood of finding them there right now. My gut feeling says you'll be very lucky to find a catfish in the lower Provo right now.
Dunno man. TubeDude is your guy for this question. But I suspect you may have to wait until ice off before you can really go out and target them.

[#0000FF]As I just advised another member....on another thread...cats will be slow and out in deeper water until temps come up a little. Ditto for carp. The Loy boys (carp seiners) are already at work out of Lindon and they are going a long ways out to set their nets.
Once the ice is gone and surface temps warm a bit you can start seeing carp clumps on the surface early in the morning around most harbors. But they really get more active when water temps get over about 60 degrees...and they spawn at 65 all around the lake.

Thank you both for the advice. I kind of figured as much but thought I'd ask anyway...I'm taking a friend out fishing tomorrow and he's looking to catch bass, bluegill, or catfish but this time of year can be difficult for those warm water species. Bluegill/perch through the ice or trout from the provo are probably more viable options. Thanks!

[#0000FF]Not familiar with all of the community ponds in Utah County. But I seem to remember someone used to post about catching lots of carp in the big pond just south of Novell...down by the University offramp.
