I'm in the process of buying a new boat and want to put it in the water first. What reservoir, closest to SLC,has open water that I can launch & run a boat. I don't want to just start it, I want to take it out for a good test drive. Thanks in advance for any info.

The places that I know of thats able to take a boat at this moment is bear lake, flaming gorge, lake powell, and the other lakes down way south.

Deer Creek is open but I'm not sure a seller will want you putting a boat on contaminated water if it is not yours.
The last report I heard Jordanelle has open water from the ramp to the dam.... which is plenty of space for a test drive.

My suggestion would be the Bear. It can offer up certain water conditions as long as you don't get into a very rough situation. Launching out of a safe harbor such as Garden City state park would eliminate shallow launches and possibly prop damage.

Jordanelle, launching from the personal water craft ramp would probably be your best option.

I doubt that Yuba has any ice, so your choices are Yuba, Deer Creek( if they will allow a launch right now) or Jordanelle( rangers there can be testy, so they may not want launching of boats at the PWC ramp !! ).
TD posted that Lindon on Utah Lake looked open already, so I would check there first !!!
