Cell phone fish finder
#1
Has anyone used one of these? Looks pretty interesting.

I saw it while viewing a video from a member in Canada, on the BFT ice fishing board:

I have heard of them, for me 'Id rather have my fish finder mounted on the dash not in my hand, I tend to loose things in my hand or it goes over board .. good luck in the search..

I've dropped all sorts of stuff down the hole over the years... luckily not my cell phone. I try to keep it in a pocket and only use it if I absolutely have to.

I've heard of a few guys using these and they liked them but I think over a long enough time period you'd end up dropping the phone down the hole[:p]

A buddy of mine has the Marcum underwater video cameras which you watch in your phone. It creates a wifi hotspot and you use the Marcum app that you download on your phone. The technology is amazing. You can take still photos our even record right to your phone. It's a much better system than the Aquaviews.

I would want a fish finder that i can mount to my toon, and i would lose my phone on that thing for sure. I can always make a PVC mount for ice fishing and use it year round.

I've seen the info on them just not ready to give up my Humminbird yet. I think it's a great idea and with some time and development I expect we'll all go for them. I don't know but I expect you could use an IPad with it and get a big screen and hopefully better resolution. Give it a couple years to add the bells and whistles and I'll probably get one. As far as dropping and losing them I'm sure they make great mounting brackets that you can buy with the cash you saved buying it. I wish them well it's a great idea. Later J

Seems like a good way to go for someone like me who can't realistically be spending money on a fish finder anytime soon (what with tuition, upcoming wedding, etc. etc.). Shame that my passion for fishing is picking up right when I'm really exiting that time period where spending lots of money on toys for myself is doable Wink Ah, well. I have enough toys.

Are there any decent systems like this on the market already that work with an iPhone 5c?

So your buddy likes that system then?

I've been looking at that one for a little while, but I hesitate to bite the bullet because I haven't heard that much feedback about them. I DO like the idea of being able to record pictures and video right to my phone though.

Hey congratulations and don't worry about gadgets, they are nice but not essential. Fishing is great because it can be done on the cheap and even provide food for the newly wed table. Unless your wife to be doesn't like fish. Mine still doesn't like it so the save money argument never worked for me, but get some of TD's recipes to use up front so she'll like fish. Would be a bonus if your hobby helped the budget. Good luck and I don't know much about those ff so someone else will have to answer those questions. Later J

Haha thanks man. Don't worry, fishing is already on the list of joint hobbies, and she does like fish Smile I don't think she's as passionate about fishing as I am, but you're totally right. I don't really need more gadgets. Like any hobby, I could find endless excuses to throw more money at it, but I have plenty of gear to get lots of great fishing done already, so I'm not too busted up about not having a flasher.

That being said, I'm still curious about this flasher that hooks to a phone. Where can I read more about it?

Looks like a cool idea, but the bluetooth on my phone really sucks up the battery. I don't know how long it would last without being plugged in.

Just ask the guy that has it, I posted the link to the thread above. I've been asking him questions about it on that thread, he said he used it today while fishing soft water, just casted it out, great tool to check out what is just off shore.

I've already have a nice ice fishing fish finder that even records video, but the sort that I can cast and retrieve while shore fishing still appeals to me to know when I've found structure or fish or to keep moving and casting it along the shore until I do find the spot to fish. It's on my buy list. I'll likely buy one as soon as I start shore fishing.

Sorry I don't remember a lot about that FF but I think it was built by the same company as that Chirp post was talking about. Good luck. J

Yep he likes it. I like it too. I was able to use it a couple times this year and it is great. You also control which way the camera looks by the on screen functions on your phone or tablet or ipad or laptop. Also, more than one phone or device can connect and watch the same screen at the same time. Really neat technology and surprisingly very easy to use.

[#000000]Curt: There are some pretty interesting reviews on Amazon.[/#000000]
It looks like it might be good for locating and jigging for Kokanee, but it has a short battery life in the sonar unit.
Can it be charged from a 12V?

It doesn't say if it has a GPS lock or waypoint feature, although you can get an App for your phone that will lock on to where you are at.

Not sure CarDell, ask that guy that I posted the link to above, on the ice fishing board.
How you been my friend, were you about to get out for some fishing this Winter?

I usually go to PV, but the ice is now sketchy, and my wife won't let me go alone.

I'm good to go now though and waiting for Willard to heat up.

I might even go back to my Bear River roots and get in the cat contest with the blue hat boys from the North.
I have a carry permit in case I catch one too big for a gaff.

Welp, after a particularly lucky tax season and a much larger return than I was expecting from the IRS... I went ahead and ordered me a Deeper. Excited to try it out Smile
