Well we finally decided to put the ice gear up and cut the shrink-wrap off the boat. Launched out of the south marina at 8:00am to a beautiful blue sky morning and a perfect walleye chop on the water. Had two of my favorite people in tow, my father in-law and seven year old boy CT. Life is good! The morning started out quick having our first good walleye eater in the boat within 10 minutes, then another about 15 minutes later. After that is was time for the wipers. Not sure how many we landed but I would guess somewhere around 8-9. Couple more walleyes including a 23”, 4 lbs-9 oz. fatty what was landed and released by my father in-law. Prior commitments had us off the water at 11:45. Nice weather, superb company, fertilizer for the tomatoes and tasty dinners to come. All in all, a great day!

So is the water temp over 50 deg. already? Sure am glad to hear the fish are waking up.

Nice job! if it's okay to ask, were you trolling crankbaits or spinners?

Nice fishin! I think its safe to say, spring is in the air!
sorry, I'm still kind of a nub... I've only ever caught walleye while trolling for wipers. How would you suggest I target eyes?

let me start by saying there's many anglers on this forum that are far better at answering this question when it comes to targeting eyes but I'll give it a shot. Location location location. Most people think that Willard is a flat structuralist mud bowl, but they're wrong. Good sonar units equipped with GPS is vital to fishing Willard. I have 3 units on my boat are all linked together so sharing waypoints whether I'm at the front the middle or the back my boat is key. You see a small hump, mark it, see another one, mark it. You do that enough times you start seeing trails roads and a lot more structure than you ever thought was out there. Fish the structure, no matter how small it is and you'll be more successful in targeting eyes.
