Mantua 3/28
#1

We hit Mantua on Saturday about 5pm. It was super windy when we arrived and we were fishing from shore, so I thought we weren't going to have much luck. We decided to fish along the north east bank. The game plan was to throw shallow cranks around cover and, if lucky enough to locate some bass, put something on the bottom nice and slow.

Well, the game plan actually worked! I ended up with four bass, however, they weren't not very big mind you. I used a rapala perch imitation (I forget the specifics though), then switched to a shakey head with a four inch worm. It ended up being a nice day after all, especially since I got my first bass of the season!

Way to go. You found the way to catch some early bass.

Thanks for the report. I'm fishing with a buddy coming in from Colorado this Friday morning. I get to pick the place and Mantua is at the top of my list. I've never been there before. He just bought some bass baits and has never targeted bass before. I've only caught one LM. Hyrum's not too far from there if Mantua isn't treating us well. Supposed to be cold(er) because of the front coming in today. Hoping the fish will still be hungry for what we offer.

Don't know if you've seen the maps, but here, just in case. I'd have to suggest best shore access if you drive around the North side and walk towards the knoll. But there's surely other places folks like to target, along the dike and such.

I've usually done best from a boat. Of course there's trips I dealt with more boat problems than fish problems, so . . .
