smoking times at willard
#1
Fishing was off the hook today at willard!!! Was nervous while waiting for our friends to show up. 4 boats came in smelling like skunk! Fun times but quite windy! We ended up boating 32 wipers and 9 walleye And a pig of a crappie.Only kept 2 of the eyes but we did take our limit of wipers for a,fish fry!

We were one of the groups that didn't have much luck. Looks like you had a great day. Any tips LOL

We caught the majority of fish off of lucky craft baby walleye and lucky craft purple rainbow 78dds. We caught fish all along the north west dike. After talking to a few boats that were trolling 2.5-3mph with no luck we kicked it up to 3.3-4mph hard to keep it exact with the wind. I was the one in the pontoon at the north marina.

Nice day on the lake! I know a few folks that would have flip-flopped your "keep" taking Eyes over Wipers. I'm an equal opportunity fish-fryer myself!

Sounds like they were in the mood for fast food. Thanks for the info.

Wonder what this weather swing is gonna do! You must have got in on the pre-storm cusp. Had some pretty nasty winds whip through CV just shortly ago.

Nice job! I took the day off with the intent to make up it up there only to decide that the winds were going to be too ugly so we spent the day doing yard work. Maybe we should have went after all [crazy] - but the yard is now ready for spring! [laugh]So once the cold front comes and goes and the warm-up returns hopefully we'll make it up there again.

It's eyes over wipers any day for us .... Jil

I agree the eyes over wipers! That being said they don't plant eyes in willard. So I keep a few and let most go. That's just me.

I snuck out of work yesterday @ 930 AM, made it to the north marina and on the water before 11. wasn't 30 minutes after getting on the water, wind came up too hard for me and my little boat. I hung out the anchor just outside the marina inlet, and actually in the marina for awhile. No joy for me. My 5th skunk in a row. [mad]
So you were probably better off getting the yard work done. Now it will be done when a nice warm day gets here.
I did notice yesterday that water level seems to have come up just a little. Last time I was in the north marina, the humps and bars just off the ramp south and east into the marina were still visible above the water. Now they aren't. They are probably just a few inches under the surface, which actually makes them even more dangerous for folks that don't know that they are there.
