Got a late start to Willard yesterday since I had to work a bit in the morning. Launched about noon and joined the fleet of boats already out on the water. Most were clustered just outside the north marina and all over Freway Bay. We assumed they knew where the Wiper were at but did not feel like playing "dodge boat". Ended up west of the pack in the middle of the lake for a while. It was slow but we picked up a couple. Eventually, almost everybody left for the day and the wind died down. We headed back toward Freeway Bay and I caught my limit for the first time ever. My brother also limited out. I think the trick is being able to fish without a lot of boat pressure. I envy those of you who are able to fish mid week, that must be awesome!
We had a lot of hits that didn't hook up. Not sure if the fish weren't fully committed or if our speed was off. Caught fish on several different colors of lipless crankbaits just off the bottom. Nothing consistent, seemed like they wanted something different every few minutes.
All in all, I can't complain. It's the most I've ever caught in 1 trip. The photo is my biggest of the day, weighing 3.5 pounds.
