Does anyone know if you can get in to the Unitas yet? I wanted to take my daughter to trial Monday. Is the road open?

This thread (one like it) usually pops up every year, at about this time, when the warm weather down in the low country makes us think about the mountains.
I have to remind myself to take a breath and remember that it's still a while before the high country is even imaginable. There are still over three feet of snow at Trial Lake, for example. A couple of days ago it was mostly single digit temperatures all day, and even in today's heat it only got above freezing for 10 hours. Most years they try to at least have the MLH cleared by Memorial Day and I can only remember one year in the last decade that was problematic (2011?). Barring any weather craziness, this year I would be almost certain they'll be ahead of that. And the real high country is usually safe by July, although again, this year it will be a bit sooner. However, I've been up there in really serious snowstorms on the Fourth of July so you never count out Mother Nature. Deep breaths for a few more months... [signature]
