Thursday might be arough day, due to the storm and temp drop, but last year the guy that lert me a few things and I got a few bites during a rolling blow, spitting sleet and snow at us, so you never know.

Get a nice, strong "catfish" rod that'll give you a good cast, and a reel with a good drag setting. Rig a slip sinker, like you would for Powerbaiting trout, with 2-3 feet of line, an egg sinker, and a SHARP quality treble hook.

A shad minnow or something might work, but the ones in the bag from KMart don't. Some guys get em on chub filets or baby carp, most of us buy mussels in a bag and use that. They do bite spinners, rapalas, jigs, and the like if they are in the mood.

Pick a spot on the dike and wait.

I talked to a guy yesterday in a tube, he was catching Wipers and Crappie using a white marabou jig under a bobber. Cast, watch, and wait.

Good luck! I have been out on Willard 4 times so far this year on my float tube. Mostly, I have caught cat fish while dragging a worm around the bottom of the lake. I have also had good luck with a white curly tail jig on a drop shot rig, sitting about 5 inches off the bottom.

Most people using bait are using clams or mussels. I was out yesterday and caught a nice wiper and some crappie on an orange spinner - my last resort after nothing else worked.

It seems the trick with Willard is finding where the fish are. It's a big lake, and I have spent a lot of time paddling around with only the occasional bite. It seems when I find a place where the fish are holding the fishing is GREAT! My recommendation would be to find an area where boats are sitting - there has been a lot of traffic on Willard lately.
