Willard Report 4/17
#1
I took the boat out from 230 to 630. Went around the whole lake trolling around 2 to 4 mph. Used the same crank baits from the week before that I caught 20 or so fish on. Didn't get a single bite. [:/]

Funny how that works isn't it. I think--just my opinion--that they are a lot closer to shore. Haven't verified that, just my hunch. Did you try shallow?

We tried shallow a little bit towards the end of our day. I think you are right though. The wipers are in shallow. It seems the shore fisherman are doing better. I don't know where the walleye are.

I think you may be right. I'm wondering if they are up in the shallows going through their "false spawn" We only caught a few on Friday where two weeks ago we boated 40 fish in 3 hours...
The ones we did catch were full of unfertile roe and looked like they were ready to pop!
Also, being up close and shallow could explain why the shore based muscle soakers are having good success right now.

I agree that they are shallow. A few weeks ago I caught them in 10 feet off water and yesterday they were in 4-6 feet. Of the six fish I caught on my fly rod they were all caught by going in extremely shallow (1-2 feet) then fishing back to deeper water where I caught them at the 5 foot mark.

I just picked up a new 7/8 wt reel and put a sinking tip on it. Now to go chase some is with it. I only had a floaring bass taper on it till now.
