So, I need a bunch of 6-8 oz egg sinkers. They are pricy for the amount I'm looking for. Has anyone poured their own? I'm sure it's not too hard once I get a mold... Just wondering if it would be worth the investment in a $40 mold or if I should just get em from ebay already made? Any suggestions?

If you only need them once, it'd be better to just buy them. If you have a continuing need, then get the mold.

You can make a mold out of plaster of paris. Using one of your sinkers as a form, make a small box as a mold. fill with plaster and press the sinker into the plaster, about half way ( use the mold line on the sinker as a guide). Place a golf tee where you want the sprue to be and press a nail in two opposite corners for guides, and let dry. Increase the height of your mold and pour more plaster over the sinker, tee and nails. Let dry. remove the mold sides and gently separate your two halves. remove your sinker and tee. Use a couple of large rubber bands to hold the mold together and pour your sinker with lead. You should be able to get a dozen or more sinkers out of each mold. They may have some flashing, but will save you a bunch. Be sure to let your mold dry completely before you try and pour lead. If it is still damp, the water will vaporize and explode your mold, not good !!! You will also need to put a pull pin in your mold before pouring the lead so you will have a channel in your sinker. You can also cast a large swivel into the mold to give you a bank type sinker !!

Thanks for the idea! I'm going to try the plaster of Paris for sure! I had been kicking around the idea of trying to machine a block of aluminum on my drill press, but this sounds much easier and cost effective!
