Hi, I am pretty new to fishing. I did it as a kid, but am just getting back into it after about a 30 year hiatus. I live in Lehi and am looking for any recommendations on how to get the most out of learning and the area. I have a Kayak that I have used on Utah Lake the last couple of weekends. Very fun, but not much luck. So far the fish are a lot smarter than I am!
I would like to start with Largemouth and Catfish. Any recommendations on locations and bait?

Welcome to BFT and Utah. With the cats try pieces of chub, white bass, and carp fished off the bottom.

Welcome to Utah and BFT. You live in about the best catfishing area in the western U.S. If you'll get yourself some carp meat and cut it up in about 1" X 1.5" chunks, you'll be set. Use about a 2-0 hook and 10 lb. test line. I like to fish by just casting the bait weightless and just letting it settle to the bottom. You can use a small slip sinker if you like. Just go out of American Fork harbor either west or east a ways and get right close to the rushes. Only about 2 - 3' of water. I like to cast, leave my bail open and just watch the line. When it starts running off the spool, close the bail, tighten the line 'till you feel weight, set the hook and get ready for a fight.
Have fun.

Thanks a ton for the information! I was just out to American Fork Harbor yesterday to scope it out. I am going to try one evening this week. Is that a good time to fish?
