I work the weekends, usually traveling across the country so my days off are normally Mon, Tues, Weds and I usually squeeze in two days of fishing.
This week I hit Utah and Deer Creek
Utah Lake
Target was white bass as I wanted to incorporate them into a family dinner we were doing on Tuesday.
Hit the AF Boat Harbor and the AF River. Parked at the gate and walked over. It was just past noon and there was a small group of people. I was using a silver vibrax spinner, i saw the bulk of people using green/pink or white/pink jigs doing well, but I have always slayed the bass with my spinners and I walked into the lake. I went out past the inlet a bit and started fishing and started hitting fast.
Then trouble hit, I had a carp actually attacked my spinner, hooked him up and I tried to get him to me and pick him up in the lake, no go so tried to walk him to shore, eventually he broke my line and took off with my spinner. Went into my tackle backpack and I left my spinners and jigs at home. So I was done. Ended up catching 25, kept 15 in 2 hours of fishing.
Deer Creek
Since I have never been fishing where bass was the primary target, I decided this would be the trip. My girlfriend loves to fish with me as I have been teaching her and she wanted to go. So we waited for the storms to pass on Weds and hit Deer Creek. We got there around 5 pm as the storms were subsiding. We decided to hit some spots I have read about around Rainbow Bay.
She was using a Crawdad Rap while I was using a grasshopper Rap. Her 2nd cast out she catches her first ever small mouth. I follow up with a small mouth of my own. We then shift over to a small inlet and start casting out and it was like a feeding frenzy. Strikes left and right with a few caught, then it died down.
We moved around and she was getting frustrated it died and she snagging some moss, so we switched her out for bait and cast her out to catch trout. I turned around and went with a popper on top and walked back over, they hated that thing and started pounding it, it was a great feeling. In 2 hours of fishing at Deer Creek, we landed 8 bass, had 4 shake us off at shore and 1 trout.
This year has been amazing as I have been able to teach the girlfriend how to fish and she has fallen in love with it and wants to go out every free second we have.
