[#0000FF]TubeBabe (Kitty Queen) was able to join me on the water again this week. That meant another trip to Lindon to renew old acquaintances and make a few new ones...fishwise.
Thought we were back in Arizona. Air temp 75 and water temp 76 at 6:30 am. And heading toward 100 air temp and water temp over 80 at noon. Whazzup widdat in Utah? No saguaro cactus along the shoreline so the feeling went away.
No rattlesnakes or coyotes either. But there were some skeeters at dawn. And lots of midges later.
Not much of a power squadron thing today but there was some kind of kids event...using kayaks and paddleboards. A whole lotta color and a whole lotta noise.
Made a few casts with plastics on the way out of the harbor. About 3' depth inside. Not much in the way of fish...just a few dink whities.
Outside? Outta sight. Once we started moving toward the bubbleup it was fairly constant action on cats. TubeBabe was whacking them on carp meat and I was getting them on my small jigs being fished for other species. Our first few were all under 18 inches. But most of the ones we caught up to about 10:30 were bigger. Average was about 21 inches with some going over the 2 foot mark.
TubeBabe fished two bait rods most of the time. I dragged around a big piece of bait to put out the appearance of working on the contest. But in truth, I caught more and bigger cats today on my light action rod, 6# line and tandem tube jigs.
In between long drawn out brawls with whiskery fish with "catitude" I managed to hang a few white bass along the pipeline at the bubbleup too. Some were just over 11 inches and thick enough to justify introduction to the fillet board. No big schools of whities but several times I got two or three in a row casting to the same spot. Then they would move on...or whatever/
It seemed to slow down suddenly about 10:30. We were both beat up and tired...and had to get back early. So, we headed back into the harbor...just in time to "integrate" with all the "plastic craft navy".
The "kicker" for the day was a big member of the power squadron who roared out between me and TubeBabe as we were nearing the harbor mouth. Then, within about 10 minutes, he came powering back inside the harbor...throwing a huge bow wake as he headed for the ramp...screaming "I'm taking on water...sorry." Nice little rock and roll ride to end our trip. Looked over to see his bilge pump pouring out water after he got his plug in. I let him know we were not put out by the free ride. And I told him that anybody who claimed to never leave the plug out would lie about other things.
