Hey Folks,
Been a while but I'm back and fishing again. Hit Lincoln Beach this A.M. Arrived a little late at 0700. There was no wind to speak of and temp was a cool 80. Launched to very calm water with no one else around. Landed the first before I cleared the channel . A very pretty fair sized Blue Gill in 3 ft of water. He took one of Tube Dude RC Kllers tipped with a crawler. The bait of choice today was the crawlers for most of the catfish. Fished for 3 hours and landed 7 catfish, one white bass and the gill. And tons of mud cats. The deepest I fished was 6 feet. Good day in spite of the heat.

I was at Lincoln today too but left before you arrived. Got there at 5:00ish to wait for the baby white bass to arrive for their breakfast of skeeters and midge hatchlings. Watched a coon work the channel shore in the semi-dark until the wb arrived. Dimples on the water started about 5:30 and held steady until the first boat launched at about 6. Used a TD sparkle head with a bit of crawler and picked up about a dozen 4 inch whities -- my favorite bait for cats later into summer and fall.
Also watched a school of half-inch-long baby catfish swimming next to the launch on the north side. Looked like a swirling black basketball. Mud or channel?? Looked like the wb would have snarfed up every one of them but did not see anything bother them.
Night shift begins this week.

[#0000FF]It was good to see you at the seminar the other night. Glad you were able to get on the water again. Also glad you got some tugs. Good therapy. Right?

Tug therapy is the best there is Pat. I forgot to mention that I hooked a VERY nice smallmouth at the opening of the channel also. Lost him right at the tube due to a knot failure. Lesson learned. Great to see you also my friend.

The water level in the channel level was good enough to launch any boat. Deepest mark on the sonar was 4-5ft. Bid boats had no problem and the ramp was pretty good also.

[#0000FF]I'm guessing they were newly hatched bullheads (mudders). That is characteristic behavior. And the reason they were not being molested is because their daddy was swimming right under them to protect them until they dispersed. If you had dropped a jig into them it would have been hammered.
As those little mudders scatter and grow to be about 3-4 inches they are prized by all the predators...especially walleye. Fishing a big black marabou or plastic jig will produce walleyes, cats, largemouths and other larger predators as long as the little black mudders are around. That's one of the reasons why black...and black/chartreuse...are such good fall colors down there. And when the white bass spawn has been poor the walleyes key in on the bullheads a lot more. Here's a pic of an average size walleye with a bullhead in its innards.
