OK, well I didn’t make it to Lallapoolaza, it actually hasn’t even occurred yet this year. But I have been playing more than what should be allowed for the past 5 weeks and thought I would share some of my adventures. Although some that know me say that I already take a ton of time off of work, I decided to take a bunch more before my upcoming job switch. I started things off with a sturgeon trip with Kent and Randy, with Randy getting big fish honors for the trip at 93 inches. Already posted pics from that trip in another post but here are a few again as who doesn’t love big fish photos.

Second on the agenda was Bodega Bay in Cali. Fished on a buddies boat for salmon and bottom fish, but only the bottom fish wanted to play. Caught a bunch of lings, cabezone, crabs and various rockfish. Although I love tuna fishing more, the variety you get out of bottom fishing is second to none, especially when some good size fish are mixed in.

Next on the agenda was a week in Yosemite. Did the usual hikes to a number of touristy waterfalls, some were trickles with how little water there is in California. But the main goal was to hike half dome. The wife and I ended up making the 18 mile trek in 9 hours, which included 4,800 feet in elevation gain. My wife decided to stay at the sub dome while I pulled my way up the dome. I have done half dome before, but only made it to the sub dome as the cables were down for the season then. It was definitely a challenging day of hiking. Started to pour as I was coming down, which makes navigating a granite slab that much more challenging. We also spent a day fishing a river that meandered through private land that the cabin we stayed at was on. We thought there was going to be trout, but found only smallmouth bass, sunfish (Lepomis microlophus), and spotted bass.

Decided another high altitude adventure was in order so went paragliding. Not as thrilling as skydiving or bungee jumping, but it was still fun.

Now back to the fishing. Went to Willard a couple of times and after one of the days, I headed to the Gorge for some rainbow fishing from shore. Crazy that you can be catching wipers, walleye, crappie etc and then catch rainbows in the same day. Didn’t take any fish photos from that, as I was really after lake trout. Spent the next day with Clark Sabey. I caught six lakers total, beat my personal best with a 30 and ½ pounder. Also caught a 23, 18 and 3 under 10. I didn’t realize I picked the same weekend as the ducks unlimited tournament and it showed with how many trailers were in the parking lot. But Clark put me on fish and I definitely recommend going with him if you get a chance.

Friday, Kent and I fished electric lake. Fishing was good, and the boats were few and far between. We caught mostly tiger trout and they were healthy and fought hard. But the best part of that trip was how cool it was. These 100 degree days are getting old. If you are interested in fishing electric lake, tube jigs hugging the bottom worked well. Catch some minnows beforehand and tip them with those.
