Why is the Kicker always on the left

Hi Gang
Can anyone tell me why the kicker is always mounted on the left side of the motor. Can it be mounted on either side of the motor?. And is an 8hp kicker to big for a 16 foot boat.?...

It can be mounted on either side,but for balance reasons it on the left since the helm is usually on the right.i think a 8 HP would be ok,but I would go a little smaller since your just trolling with it
