I'm new to this site, and I just posted in reply to a thread about Strawberry.
I just got a boat, so I'm not restricted to the shore any more. Could anyone give me some recommendations on where to go on Deer Creek or Strawberry for this weekend, and what to use?
My experience has mainly been bait fishing. Would love to learn how to jig fish.
Thanks in advance for the help.

Welcome to BFT. First off, be extremely careful this weekend. The forecast is for strong winds.
Read my post here: Link
About the only thing I would change is that this time of year I would try water around 35' deep and also tipping with a chunk of uncooked shrimp will also work.
When fishing with tube jigs, tie them directly to your line or leader (do not use any kind of snap to the eye of the hook) and keep the jig horizontal. Just letting the jig hang vertically will result in far fewer bites.
Good luck and be safe.

Welcome!
Right off the bat, I'd avoid Deer Creek this weekend. The Power Squadron will be insane there.
For Strawberry, get yourself some white and chartuese tube jigs in 2.5-4" lengths, tip them with chub or sucker meat, and follow the previous advise.

As where to go, Soldier Creek has more rainbows than the Strawberry side, so use that as a guide depending on what you want to catch. With the forecast of strong winds head to the end where the wind is coming from.

Kent, you've got a better idea of the weather than I do. In your experience where would be a good place to head to avoid the wind? Or at least be above it.

The best place is in the narrows. The problem is that one must cross open water to get to them. Mud Creek and Horse Creek are also options.

Be sure that you know the boating regs and laws.
You may get a safety check at any State boat ramp.
Know about the invasive species issues and get the yearly certification from the DWR web site.
Deer Creek has some special boat decontamination regs that you will need to know.
Last tip.
BE SURE THAT YOUR DRAIN PLUG IS INSTALLED BEFORE YOU LAUNCH!!!

A special thank you for all the help, especially for your concern for my safety.
Because I like Rainbows and for less wind, I went over to the Soldier Creek side. We caught a lot of fish on power bait and worms. Mostly smaller ones. I didn't have any luck jigging, so I'll try the Strawberry side on a calmer day.
Still need some advice here. When I tipped the jig with a small piece of shrimp or worm, I couldn't keep it horizontal, as was recommended. Also, how often and how hard do I jig?
Thanks in advance.

I use a uni-knot or a palomar knot. Tie them tight (moisten your line first so that it doesn't heat up when you pull the knot tight) and pull the knot all the way towards the point of the hook and you should be able to get the jig horizontal once it is in the water. I vary my jigging motion and speed until I find out what is working. I also like to bounce my jig off of the bottom a few times and then hold it for a few seconds just off of the bottom.
