[#800000]My original invitees got sick and could not join me. I was having some trouble finding someone to take their place so I almost called off my Berry trip today. But at the last minute, I got a call from mtncat1 (Rich H.) and after a little planning, we decided to give it a go.[/#800000]

[#800000]For a change, I got some decent sleep (7 hrs.) before leaving this morning. We got setup and started vertical jigging tube jigs tipped with chub at around 8:00 (about an hour and a half later than my normal).[/#800000]
[#800000]We started out around the Nollls but only boated 5 slot cuts in the first hour so we decided to go see if we could find some better action elsewhere. We went down north of Mud Creek and started getting some better action there. [/#800000]
[#800000]For some reason, that we couldn't quite figure out, the trout were busy slurping the surface of the water … lots of rises all over the place in 20 feet of water out to 50 feet. We casted crank baits (Lucky Craft Pointers and the like) and were catching fish about every other cast. Casting our tube jigs worked well too. The slurping ended around 11:00 and so we went back to vertical jigging and drifting and did quite well.[/#800000]
[#800000]The water was quite clear today.[/#800000]

[#800000]We caught fish vertical jigging, drifting tubes, casting tubes, dog walking crank baits, slow retrieving crank baits and fast retrieves. It was nice to be able to catch fish using so many different techniques.[/#800000]
[#800000]At about 3:00, just before we left, we watched lots of beautiful big red kokes porpusing out along the west bank. It was cool to watch.[/#800000]
[#800000]Just when I thought we had run out of bait, I seen a very small minnow in the bottom of the chub baggie. The tiny minnow was half the size of the smallest piece of chub in the bag. I stuck it on as a last resort before leaving and instantly hooked this nice 25" slot buster ... my fourth and best buster in 3 weeks. The picture just didn't do it justice:[/#800000]

[#800000]Rich put on rainbow crank bait and landed the last two fish for the day and we left.[/#800000]
[#800000]We caught around 30 fish each. The weather was fantastic and the company even better. Wow, what a great finale to the summer fishing.[/#800000]
