Red Fleet regs
#1
Just got this information from DWR personnel at the Vernal DWR:

"The following change has been made effective today (Sept. 10) and will remain in effect until November 1, 2015.

Red Fleet Reservoir (Uintah County)

The daily bag limit has been raised to:

• 12 Largemouth or Smallmouth Bass

• Eight (8) Rainbow or Brown Trout

• No limit on Bluegill"

So come enjoy Red Fleet and salvage some fish before they kill it. Rotenone is planned to occur sometime between October 13 and November 1.

Yep! Don't like to see stuff like this happen and it wouldn't be necessary hardly ever if not for selfish bucket biologists. But I'm excited and enthusiastic about the new plan. I hope it works well.

Friday I will be fishing with the DWR and others to salvage as many LM bass as possible. They will be transplanting them over to Steinaker.

If anyone wants to join in the bass salvage that day they should contact Natalie Boren at 435-219-2644 for more information. The project will go from about 7:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.

Hey big largies going to steinaker? Haven't been there since the 90's. I may need to plan a trip next year.[Wink]

Although I won't be fishing there, why don't they just remove limits if they are going to kill off the reservoir anyway? I think the DNR officers have enough to do without being concerned with limits there.

I've asked them that and some DWR personnel would love to remove the limits but there is some legal issue higher up that prevents that from happening. So double limits are what you get. Even though I don't keep many fish, I was a bit frustrated the limits weren't relaxed earlier to give more people a chance to harvest/salvage more.

It will be restocked with sterile Walleye and Rainbow Trout (only to provide an immediate fishery) along with Wipers, Tiger Trout, Black Crappie, Mountain Whitefish, and Yellow Perch in 2016. Cutthroat will also be planted in the stream above so they may be available in the reservoir as well.
