Took a Chance on Friday the 13th
#1
I decided to give Starvation a try since I hadn't been there since early October and that was just a quickie. There haven't been any recent reports from there. That can mean three things.

1- The fishing is hot and no one wants to talk about it.
2- The fishing sucks and no one wants to talk about it.
3- No ones fishing!

I put in at Rabbit Gulch at 8:30 and fished until 3:00 from my tube. The air was brisk but the winds were calm. The water temperature was 51-52 degrees with good visibility. The water is still pretty warm for this time of year. I used a medium sink line with size 6-8 bead head leeches and buggers. It started out pretty good. I had two rainbows and two 10" perch by 10:00. At 1:30 I still had two rainbows and two perch. I decided to try a fly that I've had some success for browns in the past. A short time after tying it on I hooked a large fish. I fought it for some time and it never came up so I'm thinking it might be a good brown. All of the rainbows went airborne when they were hooked. Well after a long battle I got the fish up to where I could see it and it was carp. After a quick weigh in (7 lbs. 5 oz.) and a gillectomy it was sent on it's way. What a disappointment that was. I know there are larger carp in the lake but my 6 weight does not want to hook into any of them. I managed one more rainbow before I quit. It was a great day to be on the water even if the fishing was sloooow. There were a few boaters out but no bank anglers in Rabbit Gulch.
