Are the Burbot fishing grounds with in walking distance up on FG or do you need a 4 wheeler or sled to get to good fishing. I would like to go up ad try to catch a few this year just not sure if I can access them on foot or not.
Thanks

Yes they are, especially if you go the Fire hole. Also Lost Dog isn't bad but that might be it, so far this season, as far as ice goes and I'm not even sure about Lost Dog but that is the order they progress in. First Firehole freezes, then Lost Dog. Both easy walking.

As Curtis wrote, yes they are within walking distance, just be aware that it is common to not have any snow on the ice at FG and the ice can be slicker than snot on a doorknob. I highly recommend you wear ice cleats when fishing up there.

Cool thanks for the heads up,. I actually use to ice climb so I could dust off my old crampons or just wear my hockey skates. But with the skates just hope there is no thins spots .. hehe
Any suggestions on what to use?

Firehole has bout 3 to 6 inches but I haven't hear much bout lost dog yet. Best way to fish for them is get suckered meat let it sit out for a few days. When you do go find rocky areas 30 to 50 feet in the day and 10 to 30 at night. Fish just couple inches off bottom. Be careful out there.

Glow-in-the-dark tubes tipped with cut bait will work. Various jigging type lures also tipped with cut bait will also work. You want to fish just barely off of the bottom and occasionally bouncing off of the bottom doesn't hurt.

Dont worry I am not one to venture out on the thin ice. I just want to try and plan a trip with some buddies up that way this winter. Thanks for the tips.

Just buy a pair of Yaktrax or similar traction device for your boots, best $30 you can spend for winter activities.
