Strawberry / Renegade
#1
Went to Strawberry this morning along with 1/4 of the state. Pretty busy. -2 when we arrived. Rode the snowmobile over to Renegade. Arrived around 8 a.m. Drilled the hole and the youngster started fishing while we setup the tent. He missed 3 right off the batt. Got the tent setup and then the fishing just died until about 9:30. My partner caught a beautiful healthy and heavy cutt that went 20 inches. He landed 3 all day and had 4 get off at the hole. Our youngster never did land any. I reeled in 5 and had 3 more escape at the hole. Very slow day for Renegade. The ice measured 8.5 inches thick. We fished in 22 feet of water. I caught one 20 inch fat rainbow which I invited home for dinner. All the rest were cutts. Pretty well had most of the bay to ourselves. Had a single tent abut 150 yards to the south of us, another tent across the bay to the north (several hundred or a thousand yards away) and a few tents (2 or 3) over in the mouth of the narrows. Other than that, a quiet day. We snowmobiled in by road. Not ready to cut across the ice yet, although I am sure it can be done. Didn't see anyone try it, although there were machines all over in the bays. Saw a few wheelers that drove the road, but none tried going down to the lake thru the snow... too deep. One side by side tried to get into Renegade and got buried a few yards off the main road. Did see one side by side that made it to the ice... It had tracks. Nice day for fishing. Looking forward to taking the Venture Scouts for an all nighter trip in a couple of weeks. Hopefully things pick up a bit. This was the slowest day I have ever had at Renegade.

Thanks for the report. May have been slow but sounds like a good day any way.
