how are the edges at starvation?
#1
I'm trying to decide between Fish Lake and Starvation tomorrow. I was wondering if any of yall had been out to Starvation in the last day or two. I saw TopH2O's report (I think it was him!) that said there was water over the ice at the edges. Just curious as to whether or not the edges are soft out there. Any info yall could provide would be great. Thanks!

It was me who mentioned the water on the ice almost everywhere the slope of the shoreline is nearly flat. If you can find a place with a steeper bank, there shouldn't be the same kind of problem. In Knight Hollow you can find a better access point if you just go about 200 yards west of where we got on the ice. It means a little longer walk, but it's not a big deal. Once you get on the ice the walking is easy. There's now about 10 to 12 inches of ice in Knight Hollow and only a few inches of snow on top.

One other option is to have a pair of totally waterproof boots to cross the wet spots and then change to your normal ice fishing footwear. I think I'll take a pair of hip boots next time and change to my packs when I'm on the ice. Where we fished in Knight Hollow the water had not softened the ice very much and we just walked through the 4 to 5 inches of water that was on the surface of the ice. Be careful though because the water can cause the ice to weaken and you might find yourself going through where it's knee deep or deeper. Good luck.
