East Canyon Questions

I was wondering if anyone could answer some questions for me about East canyon. Does it have safe ice? How's the fishing? Can you get to it easily from Morgan? Is it closer to Salt lake than Pineview timewise? I was thinking of going to Pineview Sunday but since it's reports aren't so good I thought I might try some place new, Thanks.

I can't answer your questions but I will add one more. Does anyone know if East Canyon has contaminated fish in it? I herd that the water coming into the reservoir several years ago was polluted and the fish were not save to eat. Is this true or was it somewhere else that this happened at? DKSRenegade

Hi there pontoonfool I can answer some of your questions about East Canyon Res. Safe ice there should be. It is at least as high as Pineview Res. How is the fishing don't know. It very easy to get to from Morgan, as you get off of I84 east bound the road you turn on to you stay on that road and go south for about 20 minutes, and it will take you to East Canyon. But if you live in Salt Lake I would go to Echo instead. Pineview and East Canyon would be about the same travel time for you. Hope the info. helps, happy fishing.

plenty safe ice was up there 1/16 a good 6" of ice then got there about 715Am fish in 45' of water trout were down about 10-15' got 6 bites and 3 fish the first hour and then they shut off get there early !

The fish in East Canyon have anchor worm. I know alot of people that eat it. They say it is only on the outer skin.

East Canyon is one if my favorite Ice fisheries. I have had several good reports from there. Foxees,and whatta crickets tipped with wax worm or salmon eggs are best, fish in 15' of water closer to the banks. Best area is near the inlet.

The fish do have parasites but they are not unhealthy to eat, just ugly, so guys throw them back to get bigger. almost every time you go there you will catch 1 in the 2lb range.

I was up there today, and it has plenty of safe ice. Saw a 4 wheeler out there, and he had no problems. No slush, and just a little snow here and there. I think the road past little dell reservoir is closed right now, so I don't think it's any closer than Pineview is. It is very easy to get to from Morgan. The road is maintained well, no ice or slush. A car can get up there without a problem. The fishing was OK today. Not great, but not bad. We fished closer to the boat ramp today. Never fished near the inlet, but I'm sure you can find fish there as well. Good luck, hope the info helps.
