Starvation / Presidents Day
#1
My friends and I took the younglings out to Starvation today. Man, was it windy! There was good ice, but about an inch or two of water on top. Looked like currents on a river with the way the wind was bowing.

We started at Rabbit Gulch. Have had good success there in previous trips, but it has been a month since the last trip. We looked all over in the back of Rabbit Gulch, but never really found them today. Drilled a lot of holes in the 14-20 foot range in several places and just struck out........

Gave up on the perch and targeted rainbows. We moved deep where Rabbit Gulch meets the main channel. We fished in 80 FOW. Found the rainbows suspended coming through.

Seemed like there were plenty of anglers out on the ice today up there. Did any of you guys do well?

Nice looking bow, did you get any over 20"? I fear with these warmer temps the edges are going to be hard to get across soon and if it continues, without colder temps, ice will go down hill fast.[Sad]

I thought the same thing about the ice conditions after the coming week. May start to lose Starvation.

I think this one was right close to 20, but we didn't measure it. We caught several really nice ones, and left them all to swim another day.

Nice, looks like some pretty slick walking conditions there. I've never tried to target the bows there but I bet they would smoke up pretty good. The ones I have kept there all have nice pink meat. Yea, ice that thick will hold up pretty good for a week or two at these temps, especially if the over night temps stay cold and if we get colder daytime temps, they might be good for a while longer but considering it is the middle of Feb we might be seeing the beginning of the end[:/].

I think I talked to you out in the middle of the gulch when you got passed by the snowmobile. After moving many times I finally found some perch in 13 ft. of water out in the middle at noon. They bit good for an hour and then slowly turned off. Nothing very big and one 15 inch trout.

Yep, that was me. Glad you got into them. It was nice to meet ya! Sounds like it was a tough day all around. Slowest day for me in a long long time. Still good to get out, though.
