Deer Creek has big 20-30 foot wide cracks of open water all the way across the reservoir and all the ice is dark, wet and developing lumps and depressions that are visible from a distance, as of Sunday 2/28. There's open water at the Charleston end that people are fishing in. When I drove past Sunday morning the open water in the cracks had a thin crust of ice but they were fully open by the end of the day. Seems like a great place to fish and I think I'll try that this weekend. I did fish Jordanelle at Rock Cliffs that day and there was a 30X200' open area that I had to wade across a bit of the river to get to but the fishing was great. Caught four 15-16 inch bows for the smoker, in addition to numberless dinks...all on chartreuse power bait.
