Hi,
So last weekend I went fishing for the first time with a friend and fell in love with it. I decided to pick it up as a hobby and was looking at rods. I found this one http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00YOW1TKK/ref=as_li_tl?ie=UTF8&camp=1789&creative=9325&creativeASIN=B00YOW1TKK&linkCode=as2&tag=hobbies07b4-20&linkId=OOV5NXHWEDBC37SG
Was wondering if anyone here uses or used this rod and can give me some feedback, or let me know if there are any better ones for the same price range.

Welcome to the forum and thank you for taking the time to register. That is a pretty decent combo. It is rated for larger fish too.
What is your target species?
That combo would be good for Catfish, Striped Bass or even Sturgeon. It is a little heavy for Trout and Panfish.[crazy]
This would be ideal for ocean fishing. There are a wide variety of fish that this rig could handle.[cool]

Like Tube said, where you fish and what species you fish for determines the gear you'll need. Even if you chose to fish just for bass, there are many combinations of rod/reel that are specialized for different presentations, lure types and weights - none superior to the next.
When it comes to pan fish, pretty much any cheap rod and reel does the job and is even capable of catching largemouth bass in open water as long as the drag is set properly. But light tackle is not made for casting heavy lures or lures that create a lot drag when retrieved.
The best way to see if a rod is adequate for what you need is to bend it yourself, noting the action on the label:
ultralight, light, medium, heavy, ultra heavy as compared to a rod's length. Within those categories there are differences how much flex there is and where the flex is in relationship to the rod tip.
Rods like lures and other tackle are tools that do different things depending on how you fish and what you fish for. Go to your local Walmart or sporting goods store and check out the tackle selection to get an idea of price, quality and variety. Also, fish with someone and borrow their rod/reel to get an idea of what might suit you after casting lures or bait and reeling in fish.

As I read through the responses to your queries I agree with them wholeheartedly, but you may bristle at SenkoSam's advice to go with someone and borrow their rod and reel, thinking that would be a lot to ask, but I want to assure you that I have never known a fisherman unwilling to loan you an outfit. They may have their favorites and will loan you one that is their second, but it is really good advice.
I have even loaned rigs to new fisherman and let them have them so they can enjoy the sport.
I used to know a fellow on one of the forums, maybe this one, who's tag line was "The tug is the drug" and it really is.

In Guyana we were fishing some rapids for Peacock bass and my buddy brought his telescopic rod, he swore by it until he hooked into a good fish. Every section of the pole broke! lol
I prefer the ones from Penfishingrods.com with the RTF combo or FD-100 reel. They have couple rear drag reels as well. I currently hold the record with the penfishingrod.com 23 lb carp. The poles are actually for small fish tho,it's micro light rated. So if your fishing for pan fish its good and light enough you can fish with all day.
They just came out with a new pole called the Backpacker® also telescopic and a bit heavier action pic below
