Misery Loves Company ... Willard 4/22
#1
I and WeekendWarior spent the morning on Willard today. Figured we'd get there early to avoid the upcoming wind. But the wind beat us there.

We trolled lots of flavors of lures in several locations. We never got a single bite!

Around noon, we called it a day, cut our losses, and came in with our tails between our legs.

On the way in, I did experience something I never had in my boat ... waves big enough to come over the bow of the boat! With the way my boat runs with it's nose so high in the air, I was quite surprised to be taking on water.

After having our butts handed to us, I was kind of embarrassed to run into old WaveWolf in the parking lot. But to my surprise, his boat hadn't caught any fish either. Once we realized that neither boat had boated any fish, we shook hands, fist bumped, high-fived, and gave each other Bro Huggs ... misery really does love company!

[#484848]Yeah, We washed a lot of lures today, then it got rough.[/#484848]
[#484848]We thought we had the perfect day but zero on the fish. We did stop at Bellas for a good Mexican lunch.[/#484848]
[#484848]It was good to see you and I was really excited to know that no one was having a terrific day.[/#484848]

Sorry you had a rough morning, I brought a fairly new BFT'r up to Willard Bay this morning (Jmorfish) and we launched out of the North Marina about 0745 along with Skeeter and his dad. A little windy at first but not bad, sailed out to the area my son and I had caught fish a couple Fridays ago and tossed out two planer boards with flicker shad on and two down riggers with worm harnesses. Action wasn't real fast but Joe had a ball he ended up catching his first wiper and also the first walleye he has caught in Utah. We came off the water at 12:30 the wind was kicking up a little bit, what I would call a GOOD "Walleye Chop"[Wink] we ended up putting 11 wipers in the boat and 1 walleye. Not too bad for two old Wisconsin boys that are retired military Vietnam vets. I took a picture of Joe with his first wiper but for some reason I can't get it to download on my computer. I will try to attach a picture of Joe if I can figure out what's wrong. This is the first time Joe and I have ever fished together, things worked out great other than he donated his hat to the depths of the bay when the wind took it off his head while he was fighting a fish. [#484848]Are you sure you didn't take a wrong turn and end up at Minersville?[/#484848]
[#484848]I thought we were good with 2 bites after talking to a bunch of boaters, but if you hammered a dozen, that has to be the catch of the day.[/#484848]

PackFan's definition of "a little windy" is a bit different than mine -- it was Way Windy, most of the time, but his boat held well, and we definitely boated some nice fish...my "first" wiper was almost 19 ", then lots of 14 and 15"ers, and one 171/2....all nice fish in my book, and a great outing with a knowledgeable Willard Bay fisherman... I won't soon forget a fellow Vet and a veteran fisherman sharing some good knowledge and tips....tks PackFan!! (those wipers are harder to clean than Pineview crappie!)...

Sorry I spelled your user name wrong Joe but I got it right now. I just wish we could have got into more walleye, haven't been able to figure them out yet this year. I told you those old wiper have a tough hide,[:p] enjoy the fillets.

Fish or no fish, I had a great time learning about fishing Willard from Old Coot. I can't say enough how much I appreciate his generosity in showing me the ropes. My motto is and always has been. If your line is in the water, it's a great day fishing. Thanks again Coot!
