UL white bass
#1
I need to take a family from my neighborhood fishing some time soon, I'd like their kids to be able to have some easy catch and release, and I was thinking white bass might be good for them.

Can anybody give me an idea of when the white bass fishing will be picking up? I will in a boat, I've usually had good luck by the provo river inlet in the past but its been a few years and was wandering when would be a good time to give it a try?

Thanks in advance!

[#0000FF]White bass numbers have been way down after three years of poor spawns and a winter dieoff a couple of years ago. But there are still enough to keep the kids happy if you can find a few.

Water temperatures are the key. They swarm to the inlets to spawn when the water gets much above 60. That usually happens in May but the weird weather this year has it going up and down. So timing will be important.

The mouth of the Provo and out along the dikes is normally pretty good. But low water levels might be a problem. It can also be good out off the dikes and in front of the Creek outlet at Lindon. Also can be good around the bubbleup.

I haven't tried it for white bass yet this year but did find a few earlier down by Lincoln Beach. Deeper there with rocks so it is a white bass magnet.

Good luck.

There have been a few white bass along the south and west dikes at Provo boat harbor. I have caught a few this year. As TD said the warmer days are the key right now. If you venture towards the Provo river inlet in your boat be very careful. They have marker buoys out but the water is very very shallow there. I haven't seen any increase in flow from the Provo river yet so I am still hoping we get some water in the lake before the spawn. I have been using small jigs with 1/16th or 1/8 head and 2 inch grubs.
