Newton
#1
My nine year old son got a new kayak yesterday, so I borrowed one and we headed to Newton for our first kayak fishing adventure! I hadn't heard much about it for a while, so I thought there wouldn't be much competition. Boy was I wrong! The power squadron was out in force, and there were a lot of people fishing from shore. I do think we were the only ones on the water fishing.

Fishing was surprisingly good. I caught my best bass of the year and saw a monster cruise underneath me. The blue gills were on their beds, and there were a lot of them! I had the best luck for bass with a four inch Senko in green pumpkin/amber laminate, fishing it weight less. If you go, take lots of bug spray. The mosquitoes were horrible!

Thanks or the post. I may be going there this afternoon for a couple hours before hitting cutler for some night time kitties.

How big did the bluegills get?

I didn't measure them, but some were good sized, bigger than my hand.

Nice hearing a good report out of Newton. It's been a while.

It's been a while since I fished there, but Newton has been a source of good memories. One of my best days for perch ever was at Newton. I've noticed the power squadron is worse there then some other places in that neighborhood. I have usually had my best luck in the fall anyways

It's good to see some fish survived from last year. It got to way low and the pelicans were having a feeding frenzy. Does anybody know if there are any muskies left in there?

I talked to a lady that works at Sportsmen's Warehouse and she said they had fished it in a boat the night before we went and had seen a bunch of small ones.
