Tried to fish Lincoln last night but the wind was blowing two foot white chaps so had to give it up. Undaunted, I left my gear in the truck and made another try at 5 a.m. Arrived at the first spring... calm seas. My plan was to unload 4-wheeler and drive along the shore to the third spring. No problem.
Just got ready to start hauling in the biggun's when Mr. Mink showed up again. No problem this time... he kept a respectful distance.
Shortly after daylight I heard the putt-putt of Ice Sled's puddle jumper. He anchored up out in one of his favorite spots at first and then did some drifting with the slight breeze that came up. Watch for a report from him.
Fishing was actually pretty good. I started catching enough cats to keep it interesting if not fast and furious. I was getting a lot of itty-bitty bites and still not sure what they were. Could have been wb or mudders?? Probably caught about 10 cats and one LMB before I left at about 10:00. LMB was caught on carp meat... first time I have ever caught one on carp.
Caught three or four cats that were on the plus side of 25 inches. Most were around 22 inches. They seem to be healthy and willing to put up a good fight. It felt good to flex my catfish arm again.
Lincoln appears to be the only place the lake can be fished because of the low water rendering most access points to big mud flats. Lincoln has a rocky shelf that drops in to some of the deeper water in the lake. Should be good fishing for tubers and toons as well as bank tanglers. The water looked good and there was no obvious algae growth or residue. Still lots of carp activity.
I still plan to try a launch in my tin tub. The ramp is closed with cement barriers but Ice Sled can still maneuver his puddle jumper around them to slither out the channel. If the weather calms down I plan to fish as often as I can with my crew before they have to hit the books again.
Still looking for that 36 incher. One of these days...
