And now, the rest of the story. . .

[#800000]Through the interaction of The Friends of Utah State Parks association, this issue has been elevated to the Parks Director, Mr. Fred Hayes. Mr. Hayes talked with the Willard Bay Park Manager and was told essentially the same thing I've already reported with a couple of minor clarifications.[/#800000]

[#800000]The Willard Bay Park Manager was informed in January 2016 that Willard Bay would be getting a new fish cleaning station. So when the Park looked to open the one at the South Marina it was broken and in need of repair. With the Park scheduled to get a new one it was determined that it wasn't worth fixing the old machine with the high cost estimated for the repair. It took Parks and Rec until August 2nd to tell Willard Bay that they were ok to order the machine. The machine is now on order and Willard Bay is waiting for installation at this point.[/#800000]

[#800000]The Park Manager admitted he had dropped the ball on this and should have gotten a better timeline on getting the new machine in before giving up on the old one. The Park is expecting the new station to be delivered in approximately a week and they just need to schedule the installation.[/#800000]

[#800000]The Park Manager understands the inconvenience that was created by not fixing the old fish cleaning station and agrees that it should not have happened. The Parks Director believes they should have done a better job of communicating between the purchasing/construction folks and the Park, and should have done a better job at establishing timelines and making sure there was not an unacceptable delay between the usability of the old station and the installation of the new one. The Parks Director apologized for that inconvenience and will share this experience with his other park managers in an effort to avoid a similar situation in the future.[/#800000]

[#800000]He ended by thanking me for bringing this to his attention. And just to set the record straight, there was never any harsh language used, stones cast, or attitude given by me or any of the parties involved with the discussion. There were questions asked in a civil manner, answers given in a like manner, and appreciation shown by all parties involved. And while it is almost too late to do us any good for this season, it does look like the Willard Bay South Marina will be getting a new fish cleaning station in the near future. And that, IMHO, is a good thing.[/#800000]
