Labor Day Weekend Start@ Willard
#1
For several reasons, decided to stick close to home and fish WB today. Got a later start than usual, on the water about 9 AM. Didn't even bother with any trolling, went directly to area off the feed lot that has been very productive for me the past 3 weeks. Washed mussels on one line, drowned worms on the other. Bite came slow, but it came enough to keep the skunk out another day. First Cat, was greedy, and tried to be stealthy. Swallowed the worm all the way past his Tongue, then moved off VERY slowly. Caused himself to get gill hooked, so took him home for dinner tonight.

Then had 3 junior size Wiper hit mussels in about a 45 minute span. All 3 released.

At 2:05 PM, was deciding to call it a day. Was stowing all my gear, with one line and a worm still out. Was about 40 yards off the south wall near the feed lot, and got a power wake that almost tossed me overboard. [mad]Was able to grab my phone and take a photo of a wake board boat plowing between me and another small fishing boat anchored due east of me. The photo isn't real sharp, and not close enough to get any identifying details. But I think you can see his wake and the other boat beyond him.
Once I got stable from his wake, brought in my last line, along with last fish for the day. Junior Kitty, CPR. [Wink]

Tin-Can, power patrol were just as bad out on the west dike. I drove around and dragged my float tube over the dike and launched off the rocks. At one point, I had one coming straight at me and finally veered off, well within 150 feet. I didn't start fishing until 9. It was good for the first hour and a half then slowed down. I gave up about 2 and went home. I did manage to get a SMB on my flyrod.

Over the years I've sure heard about a lot of close calls at Willard!! Do you ever see fish & game out patrolling for those Yahoo's breaking the 150 foot law? Or the million walleye snagers in the spring? With our raising population it seems like we just can't get a peacefully day on the water any more!!

Wanted to go to Willard but forecasted wind scared me away to fish somewhere else. How windy was it?

I almost didn't go because of the forecast. Turned out to be a very nice day. Wind was not an issue.

And now, with school back in session, there's only been 4 to 6 boat trailers in the North Marina parking lot each day I've been there during the week. However, if you're STILL in that wage earning stage of your life and can't do weekdays, you have my deepest sympathies.[/#800000] [Wink]

[#800000]T-C & FB, nice job and what in the WORLD possessed you to be out there on a holiday weekend? I wouldn't be caught dead pursuing any sport except shooting clay targets on a holiday weekend. There are WAY too many stupid jackholes out there spoiling it for everybody but themselves on a holiday weekend.[/#800000]

Larry,
Think I saw your tube out along the south west wall as I was bouncing around on all the waves [crazy]. I just wish I was able to catch the bow numbers on that red and white wave maker.

Forest, I think you have a target on your back, Maybe it's the flag. Repaint your boat school crossing green, take down your flag, change your shirt, what ever it takes.

You have been getting too many close calls. Maybe you could invite Bob to ride along with his shotgun, you could say you were shooting sporting clays.

Unfortunately, I am still in that "[#800000]wage earning stage of my life and can't do weekdays," [#000000]I do get a peaceful weekend[/#000000] [#000000]on WB sometimes. Sometimes even when there are lots of power squadron boats on the water. Some of them even seem to know and respect the laws of the water. The ones that obviously don't, strike me as operating their Daddy's boat with all their college age friends and don't have a clue or care what the rules are. Not even the rules of common courtesy. But that seems to be a common problem here in Utah. Both on the road, and on the water. [/#000000][/#800000]

Richard, I seem to remember a morning not too long ago a woman in a ski boat, with no skier behind came close to BOTH of us, at full speed. And you were in the No Wake area inside the south buoy line in your Banana Yak [:/]

I quit carrying my side arm at WB just for that reason. Would be too tempted to put some holes in the fiberglass just below the waterline.

If they ARE aiming for my flag, and I mean the U.S. Flag on my stern, then I just may have to start carrying at least a paint ball gun with me. Spent too much of my life serving that Flag to let some moron go after it.
